TeX is [almost] everybody's favourite typesetting program, and METAFONT is its prophet. Well, OK, it is the font designer which comes along with it.
But, so far, TeXnicians had to make use of Poor Man's Chinese in order to type this beautiful language. This was a set of bitmapped fonts whose quality was far from the usual standard of TeX users: perfection.
OK, as Lâo Zì put it, "the way that can be walked is not the perfect way"... and as Farelo put it, "this is the direction, but I don't know whether this is the road". Anyway, Hóng Zì tries to fill in the gap and come up with a true METAFONT.
We acknowledge very strong encouragement and very helpful tips from Prof. Douglas Hofstadter.
